What would become of your life if you received an e-mail that contained all the secrets of the US Government?
It would turn your life as you know it upside down. That is exactly what happened on one of the standout new series of the fall, NBC’s Chuck.
Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) is an adorkable computer geek who works for the Nerd Herd at Buy More. One night Chuck receives an e-mail from his former college roommate, Bryce who turns out to be not only the guy who stole Chuck’s girlfriend and got him kicked out of Stanford, but also a rogue CIA agent. Contained in the e-mail are all the secrets of the United States Government and its intelligence agencies which Bryce copied from a massive super computer, the Intersect, before destroying it. The secrets are all encoded in millions of images, which are now solely stored in Chuck’s photographic memory and are triggered by random, day-to-day events.
In order to protect their investment the CIA sends operative Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) to protect Chuck by posing as his girlfriend. This raises the sexual tension levels between these two characters and the bittersweet scenes where they play a couple make a fan ache with the UST.
The NSA opts to have their own agent, Major John Casey (Adam Baldwin), as part of the mission. John Casey is a no-nonsense, by-the-books guy. He goes undercover working in the Buy More with Chuck, and moves into the apartment complex where Chuck lives with his sister Ellie.
Dr. Ellie Bartowski (Sarah Lancaster) has always been there for her younger brother Chuck and has been since their mom left them when they were kids. They have such a wonderful sibling relationship of support and love. She always has Chuck’s happiness on her mind and is excited by the “relationship” between Chuck and Sarah. Ellie is Chuck’s biggest cheerleader and his number one fan. Along with her Boyfriend Captain Awesome (Ryan McPartlin), they strive to bring Chuck out of his shell and into the world of dating grown-ups.
Rounding out the cast is Chuck’s best friend Morgan (Joshua Gomez) and you could not ask for a better comic relief. He is everything that Ellie does not want Chuck to ever be, late twenties, working in retail, and no ambition to succeed. But his loyalty is unrivaled and he would go to the mat for Chuck time and again both at work and in his personal life.
Chuck has a little bit of something for everyone: action, mystery, and romance, as Sarah and Casey try to keep Chuck safe through each new adventure. "Don’t freak out" has become Chuck’s mantra in his crazy new life where each week brings another spy, agent, or rogue arms dealer trying to bring about the destruction of the world, or at least one little corner of it. Tune in Monday nights to experience all the geeky fun and adventure that Chuck has to offer.
And here are a couple of fics to give you your Chuck fix until next week.

This is the boy Alias. I love this show and it’s been a fun ride. I only hope it doesn’t become a victim of the stike. The charcaters have been interesting, the action, while cheesey, is still cool. Cast does really well and the writing is rather underated. I wouldn’t call it orginal. . . just fun. Still, i find myself watching to watch the new espisode of Chuck more than the new episode of Heros each week.
I have serious mad love for Chuck. You summarized the show thus far quite well!
There is a definite “we-know-this-is-kampy” feel to it, but that’s all part of the fun!!! I’m not quite sure what they’re up to with the upcoming thread of Bryce, but we’ll see!
Chuck is a fun show. It’s good to see there’s so much fan interest and participation already. My favorite scenes are the ones with the Nerd Herd and I love that Adam Baldwin (the most underrated actor on television) is in this ![]()

I love Chuck! The show is great at showing the personal price Chuck is forced to pay because of the knowledge he carries. The spy stuff is okay, but where the show really shines is when Chuck is torn between his feelings and the need to keep up the false front.
